Welcome to 9th/15th Leigh Scout Group. We have been established since December 2004 and since then, we have provided hundreds of young people from across leigh with Skills for life.
At 9th/15th, we pride ourselves on being a family-friendly group. Friendships are made for life and many of our members grow up through the group, become leaders and then bring along their own kids! By joining 9th/15th, you are being welcomed to a huge extended family! We always encourage our young people to be the best that they can be, and
with that we try to develop ‘Skills For Life’ and try out new things that they would not otherwise have been able to do.
Scouting is a global youth Movement that builds friendships, experiences, and skills for life, shaping young people's futures as active citizens. More than 500 million young people and adults have joined and experienced the power of Scouting's non-formal education since it was founded in 1907. Since then, the Scout Movement has continued to grow and is now active in 176 National Scout Organizations. Today, over 57 million young people, supported by millions of dedicated volunteers, take part in Scouting activities and events worldwide
A Scout Group is traditionally split into three or five ‘sections’. Squirrels are the youngest members of the family aged between 4 - 6. Beavers are the the next move up aged 6-8. Cubs are next, aged 8-10½. This is followed by Scouts from aged 10½ - 14. At 14, Scouts can choose to move onto Explorers or can choose to become a Young Leader in a younger section. Some even choose to do both! Members aged 18+ are eligible to become leaders & volunteers.
Every Scout Group is part of a Scout District. At 9th/15th Leigh, we are members of Lilford District, along with groups from Leigh, Atherton, Astley and Tyldesley. Each District are then members of a Scout County. At 9th/15th, we are part of the Greater Manchester West Scouting county. All the counties then form together to create one huge national Scouting family!
